Back-to-back victories for Mens 1s

WALLINGFORD’S Men’s 1st team moved up to fourth in MBBO Regional 2 when beating Sonning 2-1.

Goals from Dan Pilbeam and Sam Windsor-Lewis earned back-to-back victories. Goalkeeper Ed Everitt made a key save in the final moments to prevent Sonning earning a draw. In Division 2, our 2nd XI triumphed 3-1 at Oxford Hawks 4th. Ben White fired the visitors into the lead and, despite being pegged back, they recorded victory thanks to goals from Jack Garrod and Angus Jones. Meanwhile, Wallingford 4th beat Gerrards Cross 2nd 3-0 in Division 7, while the 5th team drew 2-2 at Oxford 9th in Division 9, thanks to two goals from Archie.

The Ladies 1st team played out a goalless draw at Marlow 2nd, but are now three games unbeaten in Trysports Three Counties League Premier 1. Sarah Lye’s double helped the 2nd XI pick up their second point in Premier 2, when drawing 2-2 with Reading Rockets. Wallingford 3rd were narrowly beaten 2-1 at Wychwood in Division 2. The hosts scored both of their goals in the first half, but Ginny Light’s side found their feet after the break. Kat McEwen hammered home to reduce the deficit, but they were unable to find an equaliser. Millie Alexander scored twice, with Maddy Bennett also on target as the 4s beat Banbury 5th 3-2 in Division 5. The 5th XI faced a tough challenge against leaders Marlow 6th and put in a battling performance in a 3-0 defeat. After conceding all three goals in the first half of the Division 7 contest, the ladies took the game to their visitors in the second period as they continue to go from strength to strength.
