Men 1st Team vs Yateley 1

20 November 2022 | Dan Pilbeam
Men 1st Team vs Yateley 1

The Mens 1s had an early start for a trip to Yateley for a 10.30 push back. Things didn’t start well with two late withdrawals leaving a bare 11 to take the pitch.

This didn’t stop Wallingford have a quick start with the ball being turned over on halfway and after a couple of passes Rupert beat the keeper from a tight angle to give Wallingford the lead. Unfortunately he was unable to add to his tally from a number of chances in the next 15 minutes and Yateley were able to pull a goal back. This was the theme of the first half with Cam and Fraser scoring only for Yateley to equalise shortly afterwards both times leaving the score 3-3 at halftime.

Wallingford came out strongly in the second half with two short corner goals from Freddie MJ giving the team some much needed breathing space. As the half wore on the game became increasingly scrappy and even with a bare eleven a number of Wallingford players felt the need for a rest with Buggy, Hugo and Dan all getting a short break on the sideline. This gave Yateley the chance to pull one back but Wallingford managed to hang on for a 5-4 win.
